Travel gifts can be some of the most intimating to buy.
You don’t want to get something that the traveler won’t be able to use due to size, TSA, etc. But you want it to be meaningful and functional. I’ve gathered some of my favorite items here to hopefully inspire your gift-giving journey this holiday season!
Away Carry-On Luggage
Last year I did a lot of research on carry-on luggage, and Away won in every category. There are some very expensive luggage options out there, but Away is reasonably affordable! With a removable battery pack, you can charge your electronics on the go. I really like Away as a company, because I purchased luggage for my husband prior to TSA saying battery packs can’t be placed in the overhead bin. Of course his suitcase had the charger built in, but Away sent us the removable pack (free of charge) with instructions on how to install it, or the option to send it in and have them do it. It was such a relief to not have to purchase another suitcase! Pro tip: if the suitcase gets scuffed up while traveling, use a Mr. Clean Eraser to remove the marks! Include one of those bad boys in the suitcase, and you’ve got the perfect gift!
Other things to note:
⇒ They come in so many colors!
⇒ There’s a hidden laundry bag inside
⇒ Built-in TSA-approved lock
⇒ 360º wheels
⇒ Money from each purchase goes to Peace Direct
⇒ Includes a lifetime limited warranty
It’s risky business walking around a new city with your camera hanging over your shoulder unprotected! One time we were on a gorgeous hike in Cinque Terre, I missed a step and slid down some rocks. My camera was unprotected – and I checked that it wasn’t broken before assessing my own situation! Cameras are a huge investment (and might cost more to replace than a broken leg…). It’s so important to keep them in a camera bag! Not to mention, it’s convenient to carry around to keep your camera, phone and money all in the same place. This bag is Amazon’s Choice, with 4/5 stars, and it’s unisex.
Kindles are surprisingly affordable these days! Not to mention slim and easy to pack. When traveling, Kindles have a leg up on paper books because it’s convenient to pack multiple books at a time. You also don’t have to bother your seat-mates on the plane by turning on the overhead light to see. It’s easy to read at the beach, on a train and on the plane! It’s the gift that keeps on giving!
Happy Planner with Travel Stickers
I am obsessed with my Happy Planner (look for a post coming soon!). If you don’t know what it is, it’s a 12 or 18 month planner with weekly pages, and tons of accessories. What makes Happy Planner unique is that you can add in expansion packs (fitness, budgeting, Christmas party planning), and you use stickers to help plan the weeks. It’s like scrapbooking with a purpose. When we’re planning a trip, I’ll design my week of that trip based on where we are going! It’s great to keep flight numbers and times all in one place. They make a lot of stickers specifically for travelers, and there are a ton on Etsy, too. They sell the Happy Planner and accessories at Hobby Lobby, Michael’s, Joann’s and on their own website. There are always great deals during Black Friday, and you can use your Joann coupons on them! (Pro tip: use your Joann % off total purchase coupons at Michaels, too – and vise versa).
This planner is called “Wanderlust”. Just add some travel stickers and you have the perfect gift!
Scratch Off Map
Is there a cooler way to track your travels? The traveler in your life will love this! It’s functional art that can help them reminisce about past trips. In addition to the scratch off map, Etsy also has some pinnable maps too, where they can track where they’ve been and where they want to be.
Summer Fridays Jet Lag Mask
So many people rave about this mask! One of it’s biggest draws, in my opinion, is that it fits in the TSA liquids rule, so you can pack it in your carry on. You also don’t have to wash it off, so you just apply it when you get on the plane, and take a nap! I’ve tried this mask, and I have a PSA for anyone with a tree nut allergy: this mask uses Chestnut Seed Extract. I’m allergic to tree nuts and this mask did not agree with me! BUT it’s hard to deny that it works for other people. Just make sure your gift recipient doesn’t have an allergy!
Nutragina Face Wipes
Each face wipe is individually wrapped in a tiny candy-like wrapper. They don’t take up any space in your liquids bag, and you can easily use them on the plane! These would be the perfect stocking stuffer for your traveler. I recently used these on a flight, and the sheets are actually huge compared to their initial compact size.
