As you probably know by now, I set out to read as many books as possible during 2018. I’m going to use this number as a benchmark for my reading goal of 2019, which has me reflecting on all of the great books I was able to finish this year. So, I thought I’d gather my 5 favorite books from the year! If you haven’t added them to your list yet – you absolutely should!
5. A Christmas Carol
I had never read this book before, and I loved it so much, I’m going to make it a staple every holiday season! Read it, and you’ll immediately be in the Christmas spirit!
4. The Wicked Deep
This book had a huge twist at the end – and honestly, I did not see it coming! Reading some reviews about the book, it seems that other people claim to have guessed, but I truly didn’t, and I think that’s why I loved it so much. It’s about romance in a creepy town, and the perfect Halloween-time read.
3. Summer Wives
Apparently I have a book for every season! And, apparently, I’m really into historical fiction. I fell in love with this story and the characters. It takes place over multiple decades, and I think the story is woven together perfectly. I actually cried when this one ended…
2. Crazy Rich Asians Trilogy
Such a fun series!! These books are written like they’re a movie. The story is so captivating, it was hard to put any of the three books down! And don’t worry, if you’ve seen the movie – you absolutely still have to read the books! Obviously there are differences.
1. The Shack
Speaking of books-turned-movies, this book touched every part of my heart. I haven’t seen the movie yet, so I can’t tell you how closely related it is to the book, but I do know that the book opened up my spirit. If you haven’t felt that way before, PICK THIS BOOK UP. It’s very spiritual, and has quite a few dark parts, but the spirituality of the book really spoke to me, and gave me a bit of a different outlook heading into 2019!
Honorable Mention:
Pin for later!

I have heard so much about Crazy Rich Asians and I need to check it out! I am always looking for new book ideas!
I’m not much of a reader but this list did interest me! nI did see the movie “crazy rich asians” & loveddd it so I can only imagine how good the book is.
Wow, so I only knew of 1 of the books officially and when I saw Crazy Rich Asians I just assumed it was from the Movie. Guess I need to start checking out the rest of these. Love that you read a classic from Dickens though! So many people know the movie versions of A Christmas Carol but have never read the book! I always find the original stories better in my mind!
Yes! And honestly, the book made me fall in love with the story… even though I’ve seen so many movies based on the story my whole life.
What a great list! I have Crazy Rich Asians sitting on my bedside table asking me to open it, I’m going to have to check it out now!
This post makes me want to make a reading list too. I feel like I’ve been not reading as much as I should these days. Thanks for sharing! <3
I bought Crazy Rich Asians on Audible – I need to start listening! It looks good.
